Weekly Message from the President

Good Monday morning to you on Tuesday January 15th, 2019—

Our 2019 Winter session is underway and we want this session to help you get closer to your educational goals. Do not hesitate to take advantage of all of the student services we provide on campus.

If you have any questions about enrollment, either Winter or Spring, or want to secure your student ID, stop by the Bridges to Success office in Mariposa Hall Room 105. Bridges also can direct you to numerous student services including counseling.

Today Tuesday January 15th, please join LATTC’s ASO and ICC in a celebration of the life of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King. There will be speeches and real conversations about civil rights. Come on out to the ASO area in the Tom Bradley Center Room C-107, at noon today. And please remember that the college will observe the MLK holiday next Monday January 21st. The campus will be closed that day so no classes will take place.

This Thursday January 17th, 2019, all of the campus staff have been asked to join in a Day of Learning. This is a professional development effort designed to make our staff more responsive to student needs and enhancing the student experience. The gathering will take place from 1:15pm to 3:00pm, which means ALL OFFICES WILL BE CLOSED on campus during that time. If you need services, try to avoid that time when staff will be training. That’s this Thursday between 1:15pm and 3:00pm.

We hope you’ve noticed our new crosswalk as you exit the Olive Street Parking Structure. The crosswalk is now lined up with the driveway that comes into the campus. Please use the crosswalk to get to campus, and don’t jaywalk because the ticket is expensive. The rest of the construction work on the Grand Avenue enhancement project will take several more months and will now focus on the entrance area at Washington and Grand.

Metro is asking for student and public input on how to make the LA-area bus system more effective and efficient. It is holding a public input session on Saturday January 26th, 2019 here on campus in Aspen Hall TE101. You can receive a free TAP card* (while supplies last) if you attend! Come to any public workshop between January 8 and February 6 and help us redesign the bus system. Meet with Metro staff, learn about the study and share your thoughts on how to improve the bus system, including bus routes, frequencies, day and times of operation. Stop in any time during the workshop.
