President’s Weekly Message

Good Monday morning to you on March 11, 2019—

Lots of excitement during this past weekend as our Lady Beavs basketball team beat Mt. San Jacinto, and is advancing to state playoff Elite Eight in Ventura on Friday! They will play San Joaquin Delta College at 3:00pm. Our women’s team is ranked third in the state and has a great chance of going deep into the state championships. Last year, the Elite Eight games were streamed, so we are hoping that happens again and we can have a viewing party for those who cannot get up to Ventura.

Labor leaders from around Los Angeles joined in a celebration of IBEW icon Brian D’Arcy here at Trade Tech this past Saturday, as part of an LATTC fundraising event. The union has been a great supporter of LATTC and its partnerships and is working hard to employ graduates in numerous projects. Among the attendees, union leader Maria Elena Durazo. But the highlight was an announced donation of $100,000 to the LATTC Foundation for student support. Thank you to IBEW, its leadership, our foundation leadership, the Trade Tech employees and the students who attended. We look forward to putting the funding into scholarships and other great efforts on behalf of students.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the transfer pathway to historically black colleges and universities. If you have an interest, please come TE101 today at 12:30pm.

I know many of you know Coach Richard Wells. Not only has he coached our men’s basketball teams for decades, he also has served as an instructor on campus for more than 42 years. It has been an incredible run for Coach Wells, and he has had such a positive influence on so many students through the years. We celebrated his contributions to LATTC and the district at the Board of Trustees meeting last week. Faculty, staff, administrations, the trustees and several of his players attended to thank one of the legends of this campus.

We encourage you to work hard in your pathway journey, and let us help you stay on track toward completion.
