ATTENTION LATTC STUDENTS AND STAFF!

INFORMATION ABOUT PARKING FOR FALL SEMESTER 2011

Enrollment at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College is higher than it has been in many years. That will place a premium on our campus parking. We are sending this message to inform you of lot changes, lot rules and some traffic issues. For Fall 2011, the lots available to students include: Olive Street Parking Structure (floors 3 and above), the F-lot (roof), Glory Church (across Washington), 22nd Street Lot B, 18th and Grand Avenue (near the 10 freeway) and LA Mart. We NO LONGER have access to the Ortho lot. We have enough spaces to accommodate every student who has purchased a parking pass, but understand that the first couple of weeks will be very busy and you may have to park in one of the off-campus lots. Staff may park in any designated staff space, and we are taking measures to deter students from parking in staff spaces.

Trade Tech has gone to a preferred and general parking permit system. A preferred parking permit allows a student to park in any lot. It can be purchased for $27 per semester at the Business Office, and includes a $7 ASO membership. A general parking permit allows a student to park in Glory Church, the Grand and 18th Street Lot and the LA Mart. It can be purchased for $20 per semester at the Business Office.

The LA Mart also has access to the Sports Museum lot on Main Street and students will be allowed to park there as well for the first few weeks of the semester.

The construction of the Expo Line light rail system is almost complete. Along Trade Tech’s west side, there is a now a left-hand turn signal allowing motorists to cross the tracks and access the F-ramp and the F-lot. At this point the light is not synchronized to immediately allow waiting motorists to make the left turn. It can take a minute or so. If that timing continues, there likely will be a back-up of vehicles along Flower Street during the morning hours, as many people try to get to the F-lot. Please give yourself extra time. The reverse will likely take place in the afternoon as people leave school, and the slow signal forces a back-up on the F-ramp. PLEASE BE PATIENT. We have asked the MTA to address this, and we hope it will happen soon. Expo Line trains are expected to start full service sometime in November. Please obey all traffic signs.

If you have any questions about parking, you may contact the campus sheriff’s office at 213 763-3600.

There will be NO student parking in the Olive Structure during these days. Students may park in the F-lot or 22nd Street B lot. Staff parking will not be affected. In exchange, LA Mart will open their East lot during the first six weeks of our Fall semester, to allow free parking for any Trade Tech student or staff member. We apologize for any inconvenience.

As part of our arrangement with the LA Mart, starting on Tuesday Jan 18th, those attending their vendors’ event will be using the upper floors of the Olive Street Parking Structure to park. This will NOT affect staff parking on the lower floors. It will impact students, who will be directed to other parking lots during those few days. There will be NO student parking in the Olive Structure for those days. Students will be able to use the F-lot, the Ortho lot and 22nd Street lot B. In exchange for these spaces, the LA Mart will provide FREE overflow parking in their lot for any LATTC students and staff, during the first few weeks of the Spring and Fall semesters. Hundreds of students took advantage of the LA Mart parking back in August and September. The LA Mart also provides FREE overflow parking for our special events like graduation and the job fair.

We apologize for any inconvenience. If you have questions please contact the LATTC Campus Sheriff’s office.

For those who use the F-ramp to park on the rooftop, there will be a change in the F-ramp entrance starting Monday October 12th. You will no longer be able to access the F-ramp by turning left off Flower Street. Instead you will have to turn left on 23rd Street and then left onto the new entrance to the F-ramp. This change is necessary because of the MTA’s work on the Expo Line along Flower Street. You will also be able to access the F-ramp from 23rd Street, by turning right onto the ramp. There will be a flagman assigned to the ramp entrance, along with signs to direct you, but there may be some confusion during the first few days of the new access, so please be patient and give yourself a few extra minutes to make your way to the ramp.

LATTC is working to increase available parking for students, to make their educational experience more fruitful. As part of that effort, Trade Tech will be opening two NEW parking lots across Grand Avenue, with entrances on 22nd Street. The lots are called 22nd Street parking lot A and B and the entrances to both lots are on 22nd street. Those lots will be open to students with an LATTC parking permit starting on Wednesday, September 30th. More than a hundred spaces will be available to students within easy walking distance of the east side of the campus. Our campus sheriff’s will be patrolling these new lots along with all others, to provide security and guidance. Our overflow lot at the LA Mart will still be available next week, so if you cannot find a space in any of the other lots, you may still use LA Mart at least for another week.
