Los Angeles Trade Technical College’s Extended Opportunity Programs and Service (EOPS) is the largest EOPS program in the State of California. This is a state funded program, which provides support services to eligible students attending Los Angeles Trade Technical College. The program’s aim is to serve and encourage students to continue their education in the community college level. The specific responsibility of EOPS is to develop and provide programs, services, techniques and activities that support students in addition to the ones received through traditional college program.

Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) is a college success, counseling support program for low income and educationally disadvantaged students. EOPS students receive assistance and support with their college education. Special attention is given to identify, plan, develop and achieve the academic, career and personal goals of our students.

EOPS believes in diversity and exposing students to different cultures and backgrounds from around the world. Within the EOPS office, out of 27 faculty and staff, there are over 19 different cultures celebrated (American, African American, African-Congo, Afghanistan, Armenian, Chinese, Creole, Guatemalan, El Salvadorian , European, Filipino, Honduras, Indian, Japanese, Mexican, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese and individuals mixed with multicultural backgrounds). Therefore, over 14 languages are spoken.

The EOPS Counseling Faculty assists students with various issues relating to their academic, career and personal development. EOPS Counselors understand that students may be unfamiliar with the college environment and culture; and therefore, they are readily available to guide you during your academic journey at LATTC. They assist students with the registration procedures, and guide students with class selections, generate a Student Educational Plan (SEP) and acquaint students to the resources available on campus. They also work with students on a personal level as they know that students may encounter many life obstacles and challenges that can interfere with their pursuit toward achieving their academic goals. EOPS Counselors believe that students should be given the appropriate tools and skills to enhance their college experience. They consistently sharpen their counseling skills, techniques, interventions, logic and intuition to help students in making decisions that lead to a successful college and life experiences.

The EOPS program’s primary goal is to encourage the enrollment, retention and transfer of students handicapped by language, social, economic and educational disadvantages, and to facilitate the successful completion of their goals and objectives in college. EOPS offers academic and support counseling, financial aid and other support services.
