SCE presents Trade-Tech with $100,000 check for Green Job Initiatives 2011 during Scholarship Awards Ceremony

On December 15, 2010, LA Trade-Tech scholarship receipients were handed the second portion of their scholarship checks (totaling $2,000 per student) by Southern California Edison.  Tammy Tumbling, Southern California Edison’s Director of Philanthropy and Community Involvement, and Tony Williams, Sr. Manager of Community Involvement, came to LA Trade Tech to present 13 chosen students who were currently working towards Green Job training.  Out of the 13 chosen recipients, 8 were physically present to receive their scholarship awards, as well as listen to both congratulatory and motivational speeches given by Dr. Roland “Chip” Chapdelaine (LATTC President), Dr. Darryl Holter (Foundation Board Chairman), and Tammy Tumbling (SCE representative).

The scholarship recipients proudly acknowledged their accomplishments.  Dean Leticia Barajas explained that under the Green Education and Training Program, scholarship awardees were eligible under the following guidelines:

1. Currently enrolled full-time (12 or more units)

2. Reside in an SCE service territory

3. Are low income or demonstrated a financial need

4. Is in good academic standing (7 of the 13 have a 4.0 GPA; 10 of the 13 have a 3.5 or above; all recipients have 2.0 or above).

5. All students will graduate from a certificate or degree program during this academic year

The scholarship awardees were enrolled in various green education programs at LA Trade Tech including:  Heating, Ventilation and A/C Program (Solar Thermal and Energy Efficiency), Architecture (Sustainable Design/Landscaping/Architecture), Solar PV, Wastewater Technology and Management, Green Building/Carpentry, and Diesel Technology (Alternative Fuels and Clean Diesel Technology).

As part of the scholarship ceremony awards, the SCE representatives then handed LATTC with a $100,000 check for Green Job Initiatives in 2011.  For those students who are currently enrolled in green education programs and courses, we encourage you to remain in school, keep your GPA up, and apply for various scholarships posted on our website.  LATTC plans to have 2 scholarship ceremonies every year to recognize and acknowledge commendable students.  As understood by these 8 scholarship recipients, hard work will not go unnoticed.
