Southern California remains in a period of active seismic activity following the 7.1 magnitude earthquake Friday night, the second major earthquake since July 4 and the largest to hit the area in 20 years. While all of the activity has been centered out in the Mojave Desert’s Ridgecrest area, the earthquakes have been felt throughout most of Southern California and seismologists say we can expect to continue to feel aftershocks, with some possibly exceeding 6.0 magnitude.
The District has initiated emergency protocols in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department for all District colleges and facilities. All buildings and elevators have been checked several times. There are no reports of damages or injuries associated with District sites. Building facilities staff continue to inspect all facilities and infrastructure. IT personnel have verified continuity of databases and online services. The District and Project Management Office staff with BuildLACCD are in the process of inspecting all construction sites.
As of 11 a.m., Saturday, July 6, 2019, the District is operating under normal conditions. There are currently no cancelations of any scheduled program or activity. All buildings are open per normal operating hours. District officials are closely monitoring the situation and will advise you of any additional changes or updates as appropriate.
